Ikumbi Tea Factory, holds the distinction of being the inaugural smallholder tea factory in the greater Murang’a County. It was established in 1971 by Brook Bond Co. Ltd and managed by Kenya Tea Development Authority from 1975 to 2000. Thereafter, Ikumbi Tea Factory became a private company under Kenya Tea Development Agency Ltd.

WHEN
Ikumbi Tea Factory, established in 1971 by Brook Bond Co. Ltd., was the first smallholder tea factory established in the greater Murang’a. Managed by Kenya Tea Development Authority from 1975 to 2000, it later became a private company under Kenya Tea Development Agency Ltd.
WHERE
Ikumbi Tea Factory is located in Kangari Location, Kigumo Constituency in Murang’a County. It is situated 85 km from Nairobi and 43 km from Thika Town. The factory occupies an area of 19.8 acres of land.
